Project ideas

Project ideas for 2027

Each idea is a defined piece of work in one Elixpo codebase, with expected outcomes, out-of-scope items, success measures and two mentors. Choose one idea and build your proposal around it.

In 2027 we plan to mentor one contributor, so every accepted contributor gets two mentors' full attention.

Reading the list

  • Size is the expected total effort: 90 hours (small) or 175 hours (medium). We do not offer 350-hour projects.
  • Difficulty follows Google's levels: one idea is Easy, three are Intermediate and two are Hard.
  • Mentors: each idea has a primary mentor, who is the contributor's main contact, and a backup mentor, who knows the project and can step in.
  • Each idea page lists warm-up tasks. Complete at least one before you write your proposal.
  • The ideas describe the problem and the expected outcomes, not a solution. Your proposal must set out your own understanding and your own plan.

Terms are defined in the glossary.

Proposing your own idea

You may propose an idea of your own. Describe it in an email to gsoc@elixpo.com before writing a proposal. It must fit one codebase and have a mentor who agrees to review it.
