Community

Code of Conduct

Everyone who takes part in Elixpo's Google Summer of Code programme - applicants, contributors, mentors and organisers - follows the Elixpo Community Code of Conduct. This page summarises it and explains how to report a concern.

Where it applies

The Elixpo Community Code of Conduct applies in every official Elixpo repository, review, issue tracker, discussion, service and event, online or in person. For this programme that includes GitHub Discussions, pull requests and issues, email with mentors and organisers, and any programme call or meeting. It also applies when someone officially represents Elixpo in public.

The full text, adapted from the Contributor Covenant, version 2.1, is the authoritative version. This page is a summary.

Expected behaviour

  • Be kind, patient and welcoming, especially to people who are new to the project.
  • Respect differing opinions, viewpoints and experiences.
  • Give and gracefully accept constructive feedback.
  • Take responsibility for mistakes, apologise to those affected and learn from them.
  • Credit work accurately and respect authorship.
  • Disagree with ideas and technical decisions without attacking the people behind them.
  • Respect project scope, maintainer boundaries, review decisions and security-reporting procedures.

Unacceptable behaviour

  • Sexualised language or imagery, and sexual attention or advances of any kind.
  • Trolling, insulting or derogatory comments, and personal or political attacks.
  • Public or private harassment, intimidation, stalking, or unwanted contact after a request to stop.
  • Publishing others' private information without their explicit permission.
  • Plagiarism, false attribution, manipulation of contribution records, or presenting another person's work as your own.
  • Using project access, reviewer status or an organisational role to pressure someone for personal, academic, financial or professional gain.
  • Any other conduct that could reasonably be considered inappropriate in a professional setting.

Google Summer of Code rules

Contributors, mentors and organisation administrators in Google Summer of Code must also follow the Google Summer of Code programme rules, including Google's code of conduct for the programme where it applies.

Reporting a concern

  • Write to gsoc@elixpo.com with the subject "Code of Conduct report". Include only what you are comfortable sharing: where the incident happened, what happened, relevant links or screenshots, and any immediate safety concern. The organisation-wide address in the full Code of Conduct, hello@elixpo.com, is also monitored.
  • Do not report in public. Do not put a report in a public issue or discussion.
  • Who handles it. Reports about the programme are handled by Elixpo's organisation administrators, Ayushman Bhattacharya (lead) and Vivek Yadav.
  • Conflict of interest. If your report involves one of the organisation administrators, write directly to the other administrator, using the addresses on the mentors page. Anyone handling a report who has a conflict of interest steps away from the decision.

Reports are acknowledged and reviewed as promptly and fairly as the available organisers allow. Information is shared only with the people needed to assess the report, respond safely or meet a legal obligation, and a reporter's identity is never knowingly published without permission. Good-faith reports must not lead to retaliation.

Enforcement

Responses are proportionate to the context, impact and history of the behaviour, and follow the steps in the full Code of Conduct:

  1. Correction: a private, written warning.
  2. Warning: a warning with consequences for continued behaviour.
  3. Temporary ban from interaction with the community.
  4. Permanent ban from public interaction with the community.

A person subject to an enforcement decision may request one review, as set out in the full Code of Conduct.
